The Bulgarian court has decided to keep in jail two defendants, detained for their alleged participation in an organized crime group, lead by Zlatomir Ivanov aka Zlatko Baretata (The Barret).

Baretata was charged as the ringleader of an organized crime group dealing with illegal drug trafficking and with first-degree murder for the killing of Stefan Ivanov aka Alf, committed in a way that endangered the life of many people.

The Sofia Court of Appeals rejected Thursday the appeals of Martin Dimitrov and Kiril Atanasov. The magistrates decided to keep both behind bars because they have more than one charges, all with high social danger, and they could commit another crime.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Baretata was the instigator of the murder and Dimitrov was his accomplice.

The court decided to change the bail of another defender, Martin Goreski, imposed by the Sofia City Court.

Goreski, who was initially ordered to be under house arrest, was later released on a bail of BGN 3000. The Court of Appeals, however, decided to decrease the bail to BGN 1000 because Goreski is a student and does not have incomes of his own.

The Court of Appeals has also stated that the ruling on Baretata has been postponed for next week. In the meantime, a new medical report for his health condition needs to be prepared.
