Bulgaria’s Council for Electronic Media has elected the new members of the Governing Board of the Bulgarian National Television.

The brand-new board was proposed by the new General Director of BNT, Vyara Ankova, who was selected to head the state TV channel last month.

According to Bulgaria’s media legislation, the BNT Governing Board has four members elected for three-year terms, with each of them being in charge of a certain portfolio.

As soon as she was selected to be the new director of the TV, Ankova promised far-reaching changes in its management, structure, and program policies.

The new BNT board members include Atanas Katsarchev, a former Deputy Finance Minister in the Saxe-Coburg Cabinet (2001-2005), who will be in charge of BNT’s finances;

Anastas Gyokov, an IT specialist who will be responsible for the digital technologies in the state TV channels;

long-time journalist Boyko Stankushev has been appointed to head the program development of the BNT;

the Director of the Media Development Center, a Sofia-based NGO, Ognyan Zlatev, will be in charge of the strategy of BNT, its use of EU funds, and the professional development of its staff.
