Three people have been arrested during a special police operation called “The Gunsmiths”, Bulgaria’s Interior Minister has announced.

The new operation is not connected to the special police operation “the Killers” and it targets people involved in illegal arms trade in the territories of the capital Sofia and the city of Plovdiv, the Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said Wednesday in an interview for the Bulgarian private television bTV.

Plamen Nikolov, who has a criminal record, has been arrested at the time of the arms deal in the Bulgarian city of Kazanlak. A AK-47 Kalashnikov gun and a Makarov pistol have been seized.

The second arrested is Stefan Stefanov, who has been detained in the Sofia district “Sveta Troitza”. The police have found 280 handmade bullets in his home.

Rashko Rashev from the village of Gradin, near Plovdiv, has also been arrested. The police have seized arms from his home.

“I hope that this time the court will decide that these are enough evidences for murders plots,” Tsvetanov said.

He added that two carbines and one pistol have also been found during the searches that were going on all Tuesday night in Sofia.
