The Bulgarian authorities have accepted the request of Greek magistrates to extradite to Greece a Bulgarian involved in illegal drug trafficking.

The individual in question is known to be the top drug dealer in the Bulgarian southern Pirin Region, Ognyan Atanasov, according to Greek media.

In the spring Bulgaria rejected the request, but now the Sofia Appellate Court ruled the guarantees of the Greek magistrates are sufficient and gave green light for the extradition of the 47-year-old alleged criminal.

The Bulgarian had received a long-term jail sentence on 1998 to be served at the Thessaloniki prison but he managed to escape and was later apprehended in Bulgaria.
