Bulgaria's Trade Turnover Down 10.5% in June 2010 Y/Y

The turnover in Bulgaria’s trade sector is down 10.5% in June 2010 compared to June 2009, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute (NSI) Tuesday.

In retail, the reduction is 7%, but retail of food items, beverages and tobacco products is up 1%.

Car fuel and medication retail is down 5% and 6% respectively, while computer and computer technology retail slumps by 18%.

In the wholesale trade, the decline is from 5% in food, beverage and tobacco products trade to 29% in the trade of machinery and equipment.

In June 2010, however, the turnover is up 6% compared to May, which is attributed to positive trends in all trade sectors – 4% increase in retail and 6% increase in wholesale trade.

For the January – June 2010 period, the trade turnover is down 15% compared to the same period of 2009, but there is a noted trend of slower declines in all sectors – retail is down 11% and wholesale trade is down 14%
