A 16-year-old girl from Israel was killed in a car crash on one of the most dangerous road sections in Bulgaria.

The accident, in which five other persons were injured, happened early Friday morning on the road between the city of Stara Zagora and the town of Nova Zagora in southern Bulgaria.

According to the Bulgarian police, a 53-year-old Israeli citizen traveling in Schkoda Octavia with his family tried to overtake another vehicle near the village of Podslon and crashed into an Opel Corsa driving in the opposite lane.

The Israeli driver, his 52-year-old wife, his 19-year-old son, and 16-year-old daughter were taken to the Stara Zagora hospital where the young girl died subsequently.

The 22-year-old driver of the Opel and a 20-year-old woman were also rushed to the hospital with the latter’s life being in still in danger.

The crashed caused the termination of traffic on the major road section which is part of the route from Sofia to the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The section between Stara Zagora and the village of Podslon is notorious for the high number of crashes and fatalities that appear there.

The problem is supposed to be rectified with the completion of the Trakiya Highway running from Sofia to Burgas on the Black Sea, scheduled for 2012. At present, only the Sofia-Stara Zagora section of the highway has been completed.
