The renovation was done for celebrating 133 years from the Second Battle of Shipka Pass on August 11.

Fandakova has pointed out the importance of making this “bridge” between past and present.

“Monuments are a sign of a memory, and the space around them and the opportunity for people to pay their respect represent the present and are a reference to the future,” she said.

The Sofia mayor has also pointed out that monuments and gardens play a big role in the upbringing and education of young people and citizens of the capital.

She added that the asphalt around the Russian Monument has been replaced by “nice paving-stones” and expressed her satisfaction that drivers and passengers will be able “to enjoy the beauty and the coziness, created by the renovated garden”.

Fandakova has announced that more than BGN 0,5 B will be needed for the renovation of the streets in Sofia.

The mayor has pointed out that the first priority for the Sofia municipality would be the renovation of the most congested streets. After that, the little streets in the neighborhoods will also undergo renovation.
