An individual withdrew over BGN half million from the bank accounts of people detained during the special operation of the Bulgarian police codenamed “All Trumps.”

The withdrawal was made in the Danube city of Ruse 4 days before the Sofia Appellate Court released the arrested with the motive the charges were sloppy and not concrete enough.

The information about the withdrawal prompted Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, to renew his critics towards the judicial system Thursday, saying he hopes the magistrates who let the criminals walk free will contribute to the reinstatement of the funds because “after all someone must be held accountable for the lack of statesmanship.”

Tsvetanov informed the individual, who made the withdrawal, is identified as Plamen Karakashev from Ruse. He is close to the group, had a rap sheet, five convictions for robberies and is part of the current investigation. He had already been arrested.

“We knew they would continue their criminal activities, including emptying bank accounts. We blocked accounts in the amount of BGN 130 000, but while the court was trying to back their rule, one person managed to take half million, depriving the State of this money” the Minister is quoted saying.

According to Tsvetanov, the probe will be tarnished over the judgment of the court and he expects magistrates to “make their rounds tomorrow morning in TV newscast explaining how they reach objective decisions.”
