Bulgarian Info Security Head: Rightist Leader Wants Power over Classified Info

Bulgarian rightist party Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) announced Tuesday they will file a signal indicating that head of the State Commission on Information Security Tsveta Markova has abused state funds.

Markova denied all allegations, saying that the democrats are staging a deliberate attack against the state agency.

Moreover, she claimed that DSB leader Ivan Kostov's ulterior intention is to gain access to “information databases offering enormous power.”

According to DSB's information, Markova has committed fraud with repair of the building housing the Information Security Commission, allotting a staggering BGN 18 M for the project and having spent more than BGN 22 M on just a fraction of it.

DSB's Ivan Ivanov further stated that Markova has classified all information regarding the repairs in order to hide her misdeed.

Ivanov recalled a similar case with ex social minister Emilia Maslarova, who allegedly embezzled millions in the repair of facilities belonging to her ministry, but said that the State Commission on Information Security's head has taken even more.

In addition, DSB announced it will press for the dissolution of the committee, because it believes its work can be and is performed by the State Agency for National Security.
