Bulgaria's Minister for Regional Development has announced that the construction of Lot 3 of the Trakiya Highway will begin August 2, followed a month later by the construction of Lot 4.

“In the following year, the ministry will continue the construction of the Trakiya and Maritza Highways. We expect Lyulin Highway to be fully finished in the middle of 2011,” Minister Rosen Plevneliev said Monday.

He has stated that 7 more tenders are expected to take place in September. Plevneliev added that the companies that will construct the new lots are expected to be announced in March 2011.

The minister added that EUR 500 M will need to be negotiated for the construction of the new seven lots.

“What makes me proud is that next week we will construct 120 km of highways. This is as much as all the governments of the transition have done altogether. So far, Bulgaria has constructed 430 km of highways, 310 km of which date back to the Todor Zhivkov ruling,” Plevneliev said.

The minister and his deputies visited the Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora Monday. There they have reported on the work they have done for the past year.
