Bulgarian Police Arrest 9 During 'Drug Dealers' Special Ops

The police in the southern Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad has arrested 9 people during the latest special police operation codenamed “Drug Dealers.”

The information was reported Monday by the Interior Ministry. The group dealt with the growing and trade of cannabis, along with illegal trade of antiques, both in Bulgaria and abroad.

The ringleader has been identified as Ivan Dambov from the village of Katuntsi. His two sons have been his main accomplices.

Three other people from the Black Sea city of Burgas have also been arrested during the same police operation. They have been busted while attempting to sell 3.8 grams of heroin.

After the raids the authorities confiscated 17 kilos of dry cannabis, illegal guns, three metal detectors, 48 antique coins, several other objects of historic value, and several cell phones. They also found two land plots near Katuntsi, which were used to grow cannabis.

Dambov managed to escape during the raid, but was apprehended several hours later. He has a long rap sheet for drug dealing and pimping.

All of the alleged criminals are currently behind bars, pending court appearances.
