The police from the Bulgarian town of Tvarditza have arrested a 28-year-old man over women trafficking to Greece.

On July 21, the police were alarmed that the man is looking for pregnant women in order to take them to Greece and sell their babies there.

The man does not have a criminal record but had a verbal agreement with two pregnant girls to sell their babies. All three are of Roma origin.

He had contacted a Greek man from the region of Patra, where the 28-year-old used to work. The two had agreed on a price of EUR 6 000 per baby.

The Bulgarian has also illegally kept an underage girl in his sister’s house. The girl was 3-month pregnant and has been living with her boyfriend on a family basis.

"The three women are living with their boyfriends, They have not gotten pregnant in order to sell their babies," said Chavdar Bozhurski, police officer from the Bulgarian city of Sliven.

The police have announced that the arrested man and the 16-year-old were both Roma people.
