Bulgarian Competition Watchdog Imposes Mimicry Fine

The Bulgarian state Commission on Protection of Competition imposed a BGN 10 290 fine on mattress producer AS&Co. for mimicry of the logo of rival TED company.

TED-BED filed a complained that this spring AS&Co. published a brochure advertising its own “TEC Mattress”, where “TEC” was written in a font and color copyrighted by TED.

The brochure did not specify the producer of the mattresses.

The the state competition watchdog considered that good practice requires producers to use their own registered trademarks in promoting their product and to refrain from using names registered by another company.
