Bulgarian Police Detain High-profile Bank Robber

The emblematic Bulgarian robber known under the alias “Kempessa” was detained Saturday in the Sunny Beach Black Sea resort, Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, informs.

“Kempessa” has a long rap sheet for burglary and theft of an estimated BGN 1.5 M total. He is believed to have robbed a bank in the southern city of Blagoevgrad.

Tsvetanov says the operation started last week, but the probe took over four months, and praised the policemen for being able to catch a long-time wanted criminal, committing large-scale robberies.

During the arrest, police found in a bank safety vault, belonging to Kempessa, over EUR 30 000, believed to be part of the stolen money.
