Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov expressed support Friday for the government's recent steps in fleshing out agreements on joint energy projects with Russia.

Parvanov said he regards highly the firm position of the center-right GERB cabinet against intermedaries in the purchase of Russian gas, saying that has been his position for the last 7-8 years.

He also supported the government's move last week for support of the Russian gas pipeline project South Stream.

“The issue concerning the price of natural gas will probably have to be decided together with agreements on South Stream,” said the Bulgarian President.

Parvanov further added that there are important details to be decided on South Streem, such as the need for construction of new pipes on Bulgarian territory, as well as issues of ownership of infrastructure.

But he was firm that at times of negotiations Bulgaria should speak with one voice.

Expect soon details about ongoing negotiations Friday afternoon between a Bulgarian and Russian energy delegation in Bulgarian city of Varna.
