The President of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas has sent his sincere good wishes to the Bulgarian Jewish community during a meeting with Solomon Passy, President of the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria.

Passy, who was Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister in 2001-2005, and was the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, had a personal meeting with the PA President Mahmoud Abbas on the second day of the latter’s two-day visit in Sofia.

The Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority Ryiad Al-Maliki was also present at the meeting, whose major topic was Bulgaria’s role in the Middle East Peace Process in its capacity as a member of the European Union and the OSCE.

It was Passy who in 2004 in his capacity as Chairman-in-Office initiated the idea for the establishment of permanent relations between the OSCE and the Palestinian Authority, a process which is continuing to this day.

During his meeting with the President of the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria, Abbas has also expressed his desire to have a meeting with the Bulgarian Jewish community next time he come to Sofia. Passy has invited Abbas to spend his next vacation in Bulgaria.
