Germany has three World Cup titles – from 1954, 1974 and 1990. In the last World Cup, which Germany hosted in 2006, the team ranked third with a 3:1 win against Portugal at the third-place play-off.

This was Uruguay’s best performance at a World Cup since the 1970 tournament in Mexico, where the team ranked fourth, defeated precisely by today’s rivals Germany.

Uruguay was a world champion twice – from 1930 and 1950.

The big final of the 2010 World Cup will be on Sunday and will face the Netherlands against Spain. Neither team has ever won the trophy.
