The car of the former Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen has crashed in the stage four of Rally Bulgaria. He and his co-driver Kaj Lindstrom are unhurt.

Raikkonen was running fifth when he went off road 19,5 km into the Belmeken Lake, near the Friday's final stage.

Following crews reported they could not see where the car has ended up, which caused a concern about the condition of Raikkonen and his co-driver.

“"I don't know exactly what happened, but in the middle of the stage Kimi went off the road and he did a half-roll. The car is on its roof and he hit a tree," Citroen Junior team boss, Benoit Nogier, said, adding that the crew was uninjured.

Nogier has also stated that there was a possibility for Raikkonen to resume his participation in Rally Bulgaria,

"From what I hear it seems the car could be okay for tomorrow," Nogier said.

In his words, the Citroen Junior team has been very pleased with Raikkonen's pace prior to the accident.

"It's a shame because Kimi was going very well. He showed very good speed this morning and particularly in this stage. He took the soft tyres when everyone else was on the hard and it seems his choice could've been quite good," Nogier said.
