Spain's Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has praised the country's football team after they made it to their first ever World Cup final and said Spanish people should be very proud.

“That was an incredibly nice day for Spain. I was very please to see the team play like that on the field. The game was intelligent, elegant,” commented Zapatero, who watched the clash in the company of his daughter and friends.

The Spanish prime minister expressed regret that he won't be able to travel to South Africa for the World Cup final due to his busy schedule, but said now was the time to enjoy the taste of victory in the semi-finals.

Spain triumphed over Germany in the second semi-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa with a minimal 1:0 victory on Wednesday evening.

The semi-final match was dominated by the Spanish for the most part as the Germans failed to show much of the zeal and skill they demonstrated against Argentina in the quarter final.

The only goal in the match was scored by Spain's Puyol in the 73rd minute.

Spain will be facing the Netherlands in the World Cup final on July 11, whereas Germany will play against Uruguay in the third place match.
