Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov has not infrequently expressed low esteem about the importance of public opinion surveys, although polls have been showing strong support for his cabinet and GERB party. Photo by BGNES.

Voter confidence in the current Bulgarian center-right GERB cabinet is still considerably high, according to a study by Bulgarian social research agency Alpha Research.

The results of the study were revealed exactly one year after GERB gained a landslide victory at the general elections July 05, 2009.

According to the study, if there were elections today, 30% of voters would go for GERB, while 12% – for the Bulgarian Socialist Party, currently the biggest opposition party in the country.

In 2009 GERB got 40% of the vote, but according to Alpha Research's Boryana Dimitrova confidence in previous cabinets has been dropping at a much faster rated. First signs of decrease in support for GERB were seen in May, but they were not as strong as previously experienced.

The Socialist Party, on the other hand, has been marking a steady record low in public support.

According to the Alpha Research study, voters see three main successes of the current government: the efforts in combating organized crime, progress in infrastructure project, as well as the government's pledge to make Bulgaria's big energy projects profitable for the country.
