Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev has announced his content with the Sofia City Court for doing a “brilliant job” on the SAPARD case on Wednesday.

The Bulgarian Court ruled 12 years imprisonment for Mario Nikolov, the businessman sued for draining EUR 7,5 M from the EU Agriculture program SAPARD.

According to Velchev, the Prosecution's Office has been wrongly accused on having acted on political orders.

He also expressed his discontent with the acquittals of Bulgaria's former Deputy Interior Minister Raif Mustafa and the businessman Rosen Marinov, who were charged with offering bribe to the former Head of Bulgaria's Fishing Agency, Marin Dimitrov, to withdraw a claim submitted to the Supreme Administrative Court (VAS) with which Dimitrov wanted to stop a public tender won by Marinov.

“The Prosecution's Office will rightly protest this decision of the Court,” Velchev said, adding that this it has again been made clear how difficult it is to prove charges of corruption.

Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor also said that the expertise of the lost documents of the National State Security Agency (DANS), for which the former PM Sergey Stanishev has been under investigation, will be done in a few days.
