The long-anticipated unblocking of the EU Rural Development Program for Bulgaria and the signing of the first contracts at the beginning of June have unleashed a wave of interest from around the country in what is seen as the major chance of people in the rural regions to improve their standard of living.

The newest contracts were signed Tuesday with ten Bulgarian municipalities getting a total of BGN 34.3 M under Measure 321 “Basic Services for the Rural Population“, and Measure 322 “Renovation and Development of Settlements”. The benefiting municipalities are Venets, Opan, Stambolovo, Strelcha, Yablanitsa, Dryanovo, Letnitsa, Ihtiman, Varshets, and Simeonovgrad.

In addition to that, the State Agriculture Fund granted a total of BGN 5.3 M to 19 private persons for the creation guest houses and development of rural tourism under Measure 312 “Support for the creation and development of micro enterprises“.
