EU Humanitarian Aid commissioner Kristalina Georgieva, Bulgaria's member of the EU executive, expressed support for the Bulgarian government's budgeting measures and energy policy in an interview for Bulgarian Pro.bg TV station Sunday.

According to Georgieva, Bulgaria can afford a higher budget deficit because of its previous consistently low levels.

She added that must not involve higher government spending and spoke out against possible raises in taxes as a measure for increasing revenue.

Georgieva also commented that low exchange rates of the euro against the dollar can provide beneficial to Bulgarian export and overall economy. She predicted that the world economy would continue to grow at minimal rates for a considerable future period.

Commissioner Georgieva also spoke in favor of Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov's intention to revise Bulgaria's position of some energy projects with Russia, among which the Belene NPP and the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline. She interpreted this not as withdrawing from the projects, but as a reassessment necessitated by the economic crisis.
