Bulgarian Baseball Player to Go Pro in US 'Washington Nationals'

A baseball player from the Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad will be joining the US professional team from the Major League Baseball “Washington Nationals” for a summer training.

The 16-year-old Martin Andonov from the team of the Bulgarian champions “Blagoevgrad Bisons” will leave for the USA on Tuesday.

In Washington, Martin will be welcomed by the team's top scouts Alex Smith and Randy Kail, who will be his mentors and supervisors.

The Bulgarian pitcher is expected to stay in the USA at least until the end of July. He will participate in a series of training and university games.

In August Martin will be joining the Bulgarian youth national baseball team in Austria where they will play in the qualifications for the European Championship.

Right after that, the Bulgarian baseball star will fly to Tirrenia, Italy to join the MLB European academy, for which he received a personal invitation.

Hristo Dundalov, who was the executive director of the Blagoevgrad's football team”Pirin” in the beginning of the year, will take care of the boy during his stay in the USA.

The first contact between Martin and “Washington Nationals” have been made through a former baseball player from “Blagoevgrad Bisons”, Yordan Mihaylov. The Americans have insisted on Martin's joining the training camp on Wednesday.
