The Bulgarian Fisheries Agency accused a former employee for the European Commission's warning to freeze EU funds.

The EC has warned Bulgaria that it may freeze its EUR 106 M of EU funds for Fisheries due to lack of conformity assessments for the program.

The Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (IARA) has stated that the delay of the assessments is a personal mistake, made by the former director of the audit authority, Hristiyan Daskalov.

IARA has also pointed out that the audit authorities for the program are not within the agency and are not subordinate to it.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture and Foods has sent a letter to Brussels with an action plan for preparing the assessment by the end of August this year.
