The Bulgarian Red Cross and the Women’s Refugee Commission have decided to celebrate the World Refugee Day with outdoor activities at Sofia’s South Park Sunday.

Between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, the organizers will give out information materials to visitors, aiming to help the integration of refugees in Bulgaria.

At the park, the Bulgarian Red Cross will also collect money for a summer camp for refugee children. This will happen through the selling of a unique cook book, put together by refugees from different countries.

The book, named “The taste of life-100 recipes from refugees in Bulgaria”, contains easy-to-make dishes and the products can be found in Bulgaria. Refugee women have donated recipes that have been handed down from one generation to the next for many years.

The mission of the book is to help Bulgarians explore the culture and traditions of the refugees and their countries through their national food, which is a great part of the philosophy of every nation.

With the money collected from the selling of the book, the Bulgarian Red Cross will send refugee children to a Bulgarian language summer camp in one of the mountains or spa resorts in Bulgaria.

The park will also provide space for eight refugee women from Iraq, Lebanon, and Albania to sell for charity jewelries from beads and semiprecious stones.

The World Refugee Day is an initiative of the UN. It is observed June 20 every year and is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.
