Romania Sacks Traffic Cops over AC/DC Fine

The employees of the Romanian National Road Agency, who fined the legendary AC/DC band with EUR 2 500, have been fired.

The musicians received the fine on May 16 when trying to cross the border after their concert in Bucharest over some of their trucks and cars not having road vignettes.

As early as May, the Head of the Romanian Road Agency said AC/DC have logged a compliant because they did not receive an invoice for the fine. Now, the Transport Minister announced all 10 employees working the shift when the fine was issued have been fired, and promised to eradicate similar “incidents.”

The fine triggered jokes across news agencies with some saying the amount was not documented because the traffic police wanted to keep the musicians’ signatures as autographs and others – that the AC/DC famous Highway to Hell song now has new meaning.

The May 16 concert in Bucharest was part of the band’s world Black Ice Tour. Two days earlier, they rocked 60 000 in Sofia with a splendid show at the National “Vasil Levski” stadium.
