The Election Day began in the central Bulgarian town of Gabrovo where citizens are choosing Saturday between seven runners their new mayor.

Polls opened at 6:00 am. The situation is reported as calm without incidents or violations. Gabrovo has 125 polls while 64 791 people have voting rights.

The 7 listed parties are the ruling center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, (GERB), the nationalist Ataka, the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the centrist party of former king Simeon Saxe-Coburg National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, (NDSV), the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS), the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party and the right-wing Blue Coalition Plus, which brings together nine right-wing political formations. Their respective candidates are Nikolay Sirakov, Nikolay Grigorov, Radi Stoyanov, Nikolina Karabelova, Pencho Penchev, Boyan Savyanov, and Iva Nikolova.

The candidate of the ruling GERB party Nikolay Sirakov, who has served so far as deputy mayor, is widely viewed as the most likely winner.

Gabrovo holds local elections after Mayor Tomislav Donchev became the new Minister without portfolio in Bulgaria's GERB government appointed to speed up the ability to use European Union funds.
