Romania will send police officers on a mission to the Bulgarian seaside for the summer, Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov announced.

“The goal is to guarantee the safety of the Romanian tourists, who will be visiting Bulgaria's seaside this summer. Likewise, Bulgarian police officers will be sent to the Romania,” Tsvetanov said Thursday.

According to him, the number of tourist went up by 10% after increasing the police presence at the Bulgarian seaside. This measure aims to prevent violations against foreign tourists.

Also, in order to avoid accidents and traffic jams, the Minister has ordered more police officers to guard the junction “Petolachkata” on the Sofia-Bourgas road, which is notorious for being a dangerous spot with many traffic accidents.

About one million Romanians came to Bulgaria for a vacation in 2009 making up the largest group of foreign tourists. An even greater number of Romanians are expected to visit Bulgaria this year.
