The construction of Lot 2 of Bulgaria's Trakiya Highway was officially launched Wednesday near the southern city of Stara Zagora.

The start was marked with the signing of the protocol between the building contractor – Bulgarian Trace Group Hold, the company supervising the construction - Put Invest Engineering JSC, and municipal representatives from the city of Stara Zagora and the town of Nova Zagora.

Bozhidar Yotov, Chair of the Managing Board of Bulgaria's Road Infrastructure Agency (API) signed the protocol in the name of the Agency.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the highway stretch that will connect Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora was held on May 5, but the actual construction was put on hold over appeals of other bidders, claiming that the procedure for choosing a supervising company for the project has been flawed.

Land owners of terrains along the stretch are also suing the State, but their claims cannot stop the realization of the project.

Lot 2 must be completed in 25 months and anywhere between 2 000 and 3 000 people from the above listed companies, which are not hiring subcontractors, will participate in the road construction.
