Bulgarian Parliament speaker Tsetska Tsacheva met Turkish counterpart Mehmet Ali ?ahin Monday.

The speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva took part Monday in the 8th Conference of the South-East European Cooperation Process Speakers of Parliament in Antalya, Turkey.

The South-East European Cooperation Process is a regional forum for diplomatic and political dialogue among parliamentarians launched in Sofia, June 1996, at a meeting of regional foreign ministers.

Tsacheva presented the key areas proposed by the Bulgarian National Assembly: accelerating the construction of Pan-European transport corridors, and intensifying the legislative cooperation in the fields of combat with organized crime, regional policy and EU-funds.

She called for a pragmatic approach and new solutions to invigorating parliamentary cooperation in the region.

Earlier Monday Tsacheva had a meeting with the speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mehmet Ali ?ahin at which both expressed satisfaction about the “excellent political relations” between the two countries.

Turkey currently holds the rotating presidency of the SEE Cooperation process. Sofia hosts the permanent Regional Secretariat for Parliamentary Cooperation in SEE.

The participants in the Conference of Speakers adopted a concluding declaration in which they reiterated their commitment to deepening regional cooperation and creating working institutional mechanisms for joint initiatives. They pledged to create a working group of regional parliamentarians to develop future forms of cooperation, including Turkey's proposal for the creation of a Parliamentary Assembly for the Cooperation Process. The speakers also discussed the opportunities for strengthening relations with other international organizations.
