Bulgarian Customs Agency Vows Revenue Increase of 1 B

The Director of the Bulgarian Customs Agency, Gen. Vanio Tanov, promised a BGN 1 B more in revenues for 2010, compared to 2009.

Tanov gave Monday an account of the activities of the Customs Agency (AM) and presented the 2010 forecast for revenues collected from Value Added Tax (VAT), export and import taxes and excise.

In May, the revenues were BGN 537 M which is 88% of those planed, but revenues from VAT, export and import taxes, are 115.5% and 115% respectively.

For the first five months of 2010, the collected revenues are 85% of those planned.

AM is introducing new systems for increased control of fuel and alcohol excise.

The Agency had busted, in the matter of just four months, 11 000 liters of draft alcohol, and 80 000 illegal bottles as well as 120 000 liters of fuel, and had carried out over 12 000 checks of warehouses, 6 400 of retail stores and 66 joint operations with partner Agencies.

On Monday, Custom agents seized 1 360 liters of illegal draft alcohol from a minivan, which was stopped while exiting the sea resort “Sunny Beach.”

When asked about details regarding the ship from Moldova where 3 500 master boxes of contraband cigarettes were found Sunday, Tanov said the operation is a great achievement of the Customs employees, who prevented contraband in the amount of 2-day cigarette consumption in Bulgaria.

Meanwhile, the Agency informed on their official internet page the cigarettes are to undergo a lab test to prove their origin.
