Applications for the issuing of Bulgarian biometric passports in Sofia will be accepted every Saturday during the month of June, the Interior Ministry announced.

The central office on “Maria Louisa” boulevard, the Office of the Traffic Police in the “Darvenitsa” district and counters at all police precincts will be open Saturday with regular weekday business hours over the strong interest of citizens.

The Interior is also continuing for the time being the order to keep passport offices open during workdays for an additional two hours after closing time if there is a line at the counter.

Application fees can be paid in advance through bank deposits in the following accounts: Directorate for Bulgarian ID Documents – IBAN BG57BNBG96613300146501, of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior - IBAN BG88BNBG96613300157001. BIC of both accounts at the Bulgarian Central Bank, BNB, is BNBGBGSD

Following its launch on March 29, the new electronic system for issuing personal identity documents was overwhelmed by the number of users online and temporary and sporadic delays in servicing citizens’ needs occurred, with the Interior blaming mostly the German Siemens, which manufactured the software.
