Bulgarian singer Miro declared he had hoped for a “God’s miracle” as he saw the outcome of the Eurovision Song Contest semi-finals as politically predetermined.

Speaking in a blitz interview for the Bulgarian National Television after Thursday night’s second Eurovision semi final, in which he failed to make it to the final with his song “Angel”, Miro commented he was not surprised by the list of countries which qualified for the last round.

“I thank everybody who was interested in my Eurovision participation, and also everybody who criticized me. This entire time I had one single thought – God, I want so much Bulgaria to have a positive image in the world! Bulgaria has to be smiling, it has to be sunny, it is a tourist destination that has so much to offer to the world,” Miro declared.

“The finalists are no surprise. Of course these countries will make to the final – Ukraine, Ireland, Turkey, Israel – Israel is a small state in terms of territory but it is really big otherwise. All of the countries which qualified for the final tonight have always made it to the final in the past contests. It is all a political vote,” the Bulgarian singer said with respect to what he sees as a politically motivated vote to determine the finalists of the Eurovision Song Contest.

He revealed that in a conversation with Maria Ilieva, the head of the Bulgarian Eurovision delegation, Ukraine’s head of delegation had said that her country was always a certain finalist.

“I am only sorry for one thing – the fact that we did not launch a stronger media campaign for our song “Angel”. But the truth is that we didn’t have enough money,” explained the Bulgarian pop star.

He also revealed that he originally intended to sing his entire song in Bulgarian but was asked by the Eurovision fan club to include lyrics in English, which is why he performed the song half in English, half in Bulgarian.

“There is only one thing which matters – the fact that Bulgaria did well tonight. Our country needs positive PR and tonight we got it. And I have to say this – everybody around here in Norway is singing our song “Angel”. Our song really touched a lot of hearts, and this is the most important thing. I will continue to believe that God knows the best thing for me, and for Bulgaria,” concluded Miro wishing good luck to future Bulgarian Eurovision participants.
