NAP Executive Director, Krasimir Stefanov, stated that 2 000 tenants had filed complaints against their landlords for hiding rental income. He added that 530 000 tax returns were filed for the 2009 tax year, which is 13 000 more than in 2008.

Stefanov continued; “The recent NRA checks have shown that we know what we are doing and the renting branch has started to self-discipline - people have started to say: ‘hey, they will find out, let’s pay and sleep peacefully.”

Stefanov concluded by praising the fact that young families are now entitled to tax relief on mortgage loans and called for more families to take advantage of the scheme – with only 1 500 having signed up for the exemptions.
