The police and justice cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania is very good, according to Romanian Interior Minister Vasile Blaga.

“Bulgaria and Romania work as if they are one state in order to meet their requirements for joining the Schengen Agreement,” Minister Blaga said in Sofia after the meeting of the Police Cooperation Convention including the Interior Ministers of the Southeast European nations.

According to the Romanian Interior Minister, the cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania has set an example. He mentioned that Bulgaria and Romania have a police contact bureau operating in Burgas, and will be opening another one in Ruse.

His Bulgarian counterpart confirmed that the two countries are acting in harmony, and stated it was very realistic to expect that they will join the Schengen Agreement in 2011.

At the end of September, Bulgaria and Romania are going to present their progress in that respect to the European Parliament.
