The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office pressed Tuesday official charges against Krasimir Georgiev aka “Krasio The Black” in the first case against him since his name emerged last summer.

Georgiev is charged with perjury and trading in influence. Only the perjury charges were submitted Tuesday.

The charges stem from the fact that during an interrogation by a prosecutor, “Krasio,” who was questioned as a witness, stated he did not know any magistrates or any other employee of the judicial system.

When the Prosecutor's Office seized his cell phone and obtained phone logs from the provider, it became clear Georgeiv had numerous phone calls with high-ranking judges and prosecutors along with politicians, deputy ministers, and police officers.

Krasimir Georgiev, from northern city of Pleven, allegedly offered magistrates to secure their high-ranking positions in exchange for cash. Several judges and magistrates, including Supreme ones, have been dismissed or resigned in the aftermath of the scandal over proven contacts with Georgiev.

The Sofia City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, informs the second case against “Krasio The Black” - for trading in influence will be filed in the fall.
