Bulgarians' Hotel Stay at Local Resorts down 17%

The number of nights spent in local hotels by Bulgarians is down over 17% in the first quarter of 2010, data published Monday by the National Statistics Institute (NSI) shows.

The revenues of hotel stay for the same period are also down by 6.3% year on year and total BGN 74 M.

The data for foreign tourists is more optimist – an increase of 6% of hotel nights and of 8.5% of the revenues (BGN 41 M). Portuguese have 108% more hotel nights, Romanians - 40% more, Spain 37%, Russia – 36%, Turkey 30%.

The total number of people who have used other accommodations (mountain cabins, villas etc) is also down by 8%. Of those using them 54% are Bulgarians. 99% of all foreign tourists have used hotels for their stay in Bulgaria.

In the first quarter of 2010 the other accommodations had 75% vacancies or with 1.4% more than in 2009.
