Yordanka Fandakova, mayor of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, has appointed two more deputies, taking the total to eight.

Ivan Sotirov and Hristo Anguelichin, members of the right-wing Blue Coalition, will deal with security and education respectively.

The appointments were expected a month ago, prompting suspicions that the delay is due to the right-wingers criticism against the government policy.

According to an official statement of the mayor office, the new deputy mayors' goal will be to assign higher priority to security and education because of their importance. The appointments of the right-wingers, however, were expected because of a pre-election deal they reached with the ruling party for trading their support.

At the mayoral elections in Sofia in mid-November 2009 the former minister of education and deputy mayor Yordanka Fandakova was elected by a large majority as the first woman mayor in the city’s history.

Fandakova won the mayoral elections in Sofia in the first round with 66.23% of the votes.
