Bulgarian Parliamentary Chair Tsetska Tsacheva had an official meeting with the EU Parliamentary speaker Jerzy Buzek in Stockholm.

Tsacheva is visiting the Swedish capital in order to participate in the Conference of Speakers of EU Parliaments which is held on 14 and 15 May.

The main discussion topics of the forum are “The Lisbon Treaty and Inter parliamentary Cooperation” and “New technologies and communication – challenges for parliaments“.

The EP President has expressed his positive attitude towards the stability of the Bulgarian institutions in times of decisive policies for overcoming the consequences of the economic crisis.

Tsacheva has informed Buzek about the changes in the Rules of Organization and Procedures of the National Assembly adopted in order to meet the country's obligations under the Lisbon Treaty. The Bulgarian Parliament made amendments to Chapter 10 of its Rules, which regulate the means of supervision over the activities of Europol and Eurojust.

At the Conference, the Bulgarian representative emphasized the importance of the national parliaments in the EU legislation process in exercising control on implementing the principles of subsidiarity and proportionality.

“This is particularly important for the citizens of the new Member States. They can be sure the control over the EU institutions has been provided by a level much closer to them – through the members of the national parliaments, which they themselves selected,” Tsacheva said.
