Bulgaria and Spain have celebrated 100 years since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic relaitons with a concert in Madrid.

The event which took place in the oldest concert hall in Madrid, Ateneo, was attended by Bulgarian Ambassador to Spain, Ivan Hristov, Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Marin Raykov, and Diego Lopez Garrido, Secretary of State for the EU at the Spanish government.

“Bulgaria is extremely close to Spain, it is part of our contemporary reality. So many Bulgarians have come and remained here to become part of our lives,” declared Garrido at the event as cited by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.

“We are very close not just as people but also in our views for the future of the EU,” stated in turn Deputy Foreign Minister Raykov.

The formal concert was performed by the Bulgarian virtuoso pianist living in Toledo, Lyudmil Angelov. The concert completed a series of events in Bulgaria and Spain with which the countries mark the centennial.

Bulgaria and Spain established diplomatic relations on May 8, 1910.
