There is “conclusive evidence” that Pakistani Taliban have organized the car bomb attempt in Times Square in New York last week, according to US Attorney General.

"We've now developed evidence that shows that the Pakistani Taliban was behind the attack. We know that they helped facilitate it. We know that they probably helped finance it. And that he was working at their direction," Attorney General Holder said on ABC Sunday.

The Washington Post points out that a similar conclusion was expressed by top White House counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan.

Speaking on CNN, Brennan said that the suspect arrested for the attempted Times Square bombing, Faisal Shahzad, was working with the group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or TTP, which he described as "closely allied with al Qaeda."

A bomb made up of propane tanks, fertilizer and gasoline failed to detonate inside a SUV in Times Square last week.

Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud appeared on a video released less than 24 hours after the attempt, claiming Taliban fighters were prepared to inflict "extremely painful blows" in major US cities. Until Sunday, however, senior US officials claimed there was no "credible evidence" the Pakistani Taliban was responsible for the Times Square bomb incident.
