The Commission on Protection of Competition rejected the appeal of the National Transport Axes Association to stop the construction of the lot 2 section of the Trakiya Highway.

The association has submitted an appeal, claiming that the procedure for choosing a supervising company for the project has been flawed.

National Transport Axes Assoc. have submitted the lowest bid, yet supervision has been assigned to the Put Invest Engineering JSC company.

However, the Competition Protection Commission declared Wednesday that no backdoor settlement deals and the construction of the new strip must be given the go-ahead.

The Commission’s decision can be further appealed in Bulgaria’s Supreme Administrative Court.

The appeal regarding the supervision of the construction of the lot 2 Trakiya Highway section, was submitted by the current member of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Mladen Chervenyakov on behalf of the National Transport Axes association at the beginning of the week.

According to Bulgaria’s Prime Minister and the Bulgarian Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev, the appeal was but an attempt by the Socialist opposition to slow down the construction of the new strip.

Prime Minister Borisov launched the construction of the Stara Zagora-Nova Zagora highway section with a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday.

Bulgaria’s tie-in "Unified Highway Trace" won the tender for the construction of the new 32-kilometer-long section of the Trakiya Highway at the end of February and a month later signed a contract with the Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency.

The Bulgarian consortium submitted the lowest bid - BGN 137,86 M – in competition with three other approved applicants. 4 000 jobs will be created by the project in the Stara Zagora region.
