Bulgaria's employers are required, effective Monday, to notify the National Revenue Agency (NRA), when sending their employees on business trips to other EU countries.

NRA say the measure is imposed by a change in the European Union decree for the coordination of social security systems of member states, requiring NRA to issue certificates for business trips.

The employee needs the certificate as proof they are insured in Bulgaria thus not required to make insurance contributions in the visited country. The document is to be presented to the foreign employer, who is paying the salary during the business trip, or to the revenue authorities in the respective country.

According to the change, the certificate will be valid for 2 years, not 1 as it has been until now.

NRA further informs that within 2 years the print documents will be replaced by electronic ones.
