The Sofia airport reopened Saturday evening and all flights are departing and landing on schedule Sunday, the airport officials announce.

The capital city airport was closed around 4:30 pm Saturday when a plane of Poland's budget carrier Wizzair made an emergency landing after its burst and caught fire on touchdown.

Firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the blaze and evacuate the 149 passengers on the Venice – Sofia flight. There were no reported injuries, but the authorities decided to close the airport and banned both landing and departing flights Saturday evening.

Two flights from Madrid were redirected to the airport in the second largest city Plovdiv over the need to move the damaged plane. Several flights were delayed and one returned back to Istanbul.

The flights are running on schedule Sunday while Wizzair say they are probing the incident.
