The Serbian Interior Ministry's Border Management Department suspended decision to allow EU citizens to transit the Serbian border with their IDs only.

All EU transit passengers will now need an international passport in order to travel through Serbia.

The measure to allow EU citizens to cross the Serbian border with their ID cards was a temporary one and imposed as a result of the volcanic-ash crises that halted air-traffic throughout Europe.

The ash cloud from a volcano that erupted in Iceland led to flight chaos - some 60% of flights in Europe were grounded, and more than half of trans-Atlantic flights canceled.

The Serbian authorities acknowledged the need for alternative means of transportation and relaxed customs' regulations so that citizens of EU countries may return to their homes.

This decision is now no longer valid as air traffic has returned to normal.
