Bulgaria Police Crack Down on 'Money Lenders' Gang

Bulgarian commandos have made four arrests during special police operation in a Vidin city neighborhood, announced Bulgaria's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

During police raids, early Thursday morning, in the neighborhood 'Nov put' in the northwestern Bulgarian city of Vidin, four people have been detained in a special operation codenamed 'The Money Lenders.'

Bulgarian commandos have confiscated two laptops with electronic data for giving out illegal loans, blue prints of agricultural land plots, notarial acts for real estate in the 'Nov put' neighourhood, guarantee cards for all kinds of electric equipment that has been pawned in the pawn shops owned by the criminals.

'The Money Lenders' are also accused of having illegally acquired agricultural plots of land that they have later used to apply for EU funding.

Over BGN 50 000 have also been confiscated during the special operation of the Bulgarian police.

The detainees are unemployed, yet they own a number of luxury cars and boast a rather high living standard.

Wednesday, during police raids in the Kazanlak city, 7 people were detained, including an Iranian citizen, in a special operation codenamed ‘Terrorists’, targeting a mafia group involved in the sale of Kalashnikov guns and other weapons.

5 other people were arrested Wednesday in an operation codenamed ‘Registrars’ in Sofia, concentrating on the illegal registration of cars with the Traffic Police (KAT) to avoid emissions taxes. Several addresses were raided in the capital and some KAT officials were allegedly busted.

Meanwhile, police in Stara Zagora and Radnevo busted 3 people during Operation 'Sweeties' who are allegedly involved in the illegal trade of spare parts for specialist tractors that work in the area of the Maritsa Iztok mines.
