The Sofia Appellate Court left Tuesday behind bars only one alleged member of the crime group codenamed “The Untouchables.”

The individual is identified as Zhelyaz Ivanov. The magistrates also confirmed the rule of the Sofia City Court to release Ivaylo Yordanov, and Borislav Hristov, on BGN 5 000 and BGN 8 000 bails respectively.

All 3 are accused of participating in a criminal scheme to drain the State budget and other tax offenses. They were arrested on April 14 in Sofia, along with 13 other people in a special police operation under the same name.

The Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, said the operation was called “The Untouchables” because the members of the group have escaped justice on many occasions. The name of Bulgaria's energy tycoon, Hristo Kovachki, has been tossed as a person, who is part of the group. Kovachki is currently tried for tax evasion.
