The Bulgarian parliament approved the harsh report of the commission which probes the expenses of the previous cabinet in the last year of its mandate.

The Temporary Inquiry Commission was set up the government of the ruling GERB party to investigate into the wrongdoings of the three-way coalition.

During parliamentary discussions on Friday, a majority of 114 MPs voted in favor of the Commission’s conclusion that the tri-party coalition headed by socialist leader Sergey Stanisev has abused its power.

The Commission’s report will be submitted to Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev.

Stanishev's Cabinet is said to have concluded shady privatization and public procurement deals, announced flawed tenders and appointed governmental officials unlawfully.

Most of the misdeeds of Bulgaria’s previous government were publicly announced in July 2010 when GERB came into power and some of the offenses are now being investigated by the prosecution.

During Friday’s sitting of parliament, the majority of the ruling center-right GERB party accused its predecessors of “impudent theft”, of deceiving the Bulgarian public that the country is not in an economic crisis, of spending large amounts from the state budget for their political campaign and intentionally hampering the work of the regulatory institutions.

The opposition responded to the accusations by saying that the new Bulgarian government wants to hold the three-way coalition responsible not for crimes that have been committed but for the politics adopted.”

Bulgaria’s ex Prime Minister Sergey Stanshev announced Thursday in Parliament that by setting up an unprecedented Temporary Inquiry Commission to probe into the expenses of the previous government it had put politics over court authority.

“My guess is that Bulgaria’s next government will set up a commission to investigate the activities of the GERB Cabinet,” said the socialist leader on Thursday.

Stanishev also drew a comparison between the government of the GERB ruling party and the Department for Falsifying the Past described in George Orwell’s anti-utopian novel “1984.”
