Rightists, Nationalists to Dominate Hungary Parliament Elections

Hungarians are voting Sunday in the first round Parliamentary Elections which are forecast to be dominated by the rightists.

About 8.3 million voters are eligible to elect the 386 Hungarian MPs.

All polls predict a decisive victory of the right-wing opposition party Fidesz of former Prime Minister Viktor Orban after eight years in power for the Socialist Party MSZP.

The far-right party Jobbik is expected to enter Parliament winning between 13% and 20%, according to polls.

The rise of the far-right is viewed by many as a result of the 2009 recession when the economy shrank by 6.3%; the unemployment has risen to 11,4%, the highest level since 1994.

The second round of the Parliamentary Elections in Hungary will be on April 25.
